The New Era of LMP3: Toyota Engines, Challenges and Opportunities – part 5: Ginetta G51-LT-P3

British manufacturer Ginetta recently released the first images of the evolution of its LMP3 prototype for the third generation of the ACO regulations. Based on the same chassis that was the first LMP3 to debut in 2015, and which also gave rise to the G57 P2 and G58 models, the new car has been called G51-LT-P3 Evo, a name that sounds a little strange since the current generation car is identified as G61-LT-P3 (Ginetta did not comment our contact on this subject until the closing of this publication).

The new car retains many of the aerodynamic solutions of the G61-LT-P3, with modifications mainly focused on cooling the new Toyota V6 Biturbo engine.

Starting with the front of the prototype, there is a change in geometry of the engine air intake (1a and 1b) and the addition of a gurney flap (2) in front of the front wheel ventilation openings (2), probably to improve air extraction in the Big Honking Holes.

In the central section, the bargeboards (3a and 3b) were completely redesigned, and louvres (4) were added, similar to the Adess and Duqueine cars.

At the rear, the big change is in the positioning of the exhaust outlets, which were moved from the rear (5a) to the top of the engine cover (5b), just like the other third-generation LMP3s.

Ginetta G57 P2 / G58 (2016 – )

Derived from the Ginetta Juno LMP3, the G57 was born to offer the performance of an LMP2 (before 2016) at the price of an LMP3, combining the GM LS3 V8 engine with a more aggressive aerodynamic package than that of a P3.
